Meeting Minutes

March 21, 2012 – Items addressed at this meeting are summarized in bold type.

5:30 PM at the Olympic Tavern

Board Present:     Dick Berman, Stan Arnold, Tim Moore, Bill Simpson, Jeff Orput

                            John Beck (in between courses of his dinner with his family)

Others attending:  Phyllis Damkan, 416 Brown Ave.

1. Meeting was called to order at5:30 PM.

2. Roll Call-    Present as stated above.

3. Alderman Report- No report.  Edgewater resident Phyllis Damken reported damage to her yard caused by the snowplow contractor.  This will be looked in to.

4. Treasurer’s Report-  March report accepted as submitted showing a $4,087.00 snow plow account surplus due to the warm winter.

Other items for discussion were complimentary food and drinks at the Board meetings,  getting a debit card, and an IRS notification that Edgewater’s tax-exempt status had been revoked.

5. Secretary’s Report –   Feburary minutes were approved as submitted.

6. Community Service Report-   No report.  Officer Jeff Andrews was not in attendance.  He reports every other month and this was his off month.   We will at some point investigate the possibility of getting comparative crime statistics for Edgewater versus other areas of the City

7. Webmaster comments-  Motion passed to hire the present host/maintenance, contractor, John LiCausi, to again host and maintain web site in 2012. Drew Williams remains the Webmaster.   He will begin posting Board meeting minutes soon, as well as the job of updating the site monthly.  Future additions to the site could be a Realtor link and Edgewater crime statistics.

9.  Garage Sale committee- no report.  2012 date will be set at April meeting

10.  2011 Calendar- no report
11.  Pride in Edgewater committee- no report
12. Watering and Plant committee-   A March/2012 agenda item must be the discussion of planting and maintaining the bridge boxes, bridge pots and Auburn Street pots (Cumberland west to North Main Street) throughout the 2012 summer.

13. Easter Egg Hunt- Stan Arnold putting final touches on the event.  Summary to follow at next meeting.

14. 4^th of July committee-   Tim Moore will research and purchase a bull horn and/or PA system for use at our events.  $400.00 was approved for the purchase.

15. LuminaryCommittee-  Village Green is to order fatter candles for next year.    Candle and BagSale/ Membership drive is Saturday, December 3, 9-4 at Village Green.  Sign-up sheet will be circulated.  $200 was approved for bridge candles, but a sponsor will be sought to underwrite the cost of the candles.

16. Snow Plow committee- No report, no complaints reported by snow committee. We have a signed contract with last year’s contractor, Unitrim, for this year at the same rates.  Lesli Nelson-Richter and James Richter are again snowplow captains.

17. By-Law committee- no report given.
18. Tree project committee-no report given.
19. Budget committee- no report given.
20. Banner project- Alderman Beck will ask the City to take banners down for the winter.
21. Neighborhood grants requests- no report.
22. OxfordPark Ice Rink- There will be no rink in the Park this winter due to liability and budget concerns.  Insurance policy of $2,000.00 to cover Edgewater members, board of directors, officers and 4 events was considered too expensive, and the slippery fact of a rink made such coverage a necessity. In the future, grants or sponsorships could underwrite some of the cost.

23. Edgewater Membership Card program- Jeff Orput will mail cards. Board voted to implement a card program; upon paying 2012 membership dues, the resident will be issued a numbered Edgewater card.   It is desired that the holder of the card would be entitled to great deals at participating area businesses, and that the deals would be listed on the website.  A new card would be issued upon payment of 2013 dues, 2014 dues, and so on.  This is a pilot program and will be developed throughout next year.

24. Newsletter- Board approved  $600.00 expenditure for the next newsletter, which will be in our 1200 homes in mid April.  CQ America will again do the printing and mailing.

25.  WalkerSchool 100^th  Anniversary Celebration-  Ray Owens, Principal of Walker School, and his assistant Laura Garey, spoke of Walker School’s 100^th anniversary in 2012 and its celebration partyMay 19, 2012.  Edgewater residents are encouraged to join in the planning or celebrating of this event, which could include trolley rides, un-earthling of a time capsule, vendors & artisans, an Alumni Drive, silent auction, food…..

26. Business Committee - A Business committee will be set up in 2012 to act as a

liaison between the members and area Edgewater business with the goal of

each supporting the other for mutual benefit.  Residents are encouraged to

serve on this committee if interested.
